At DC Podiatry, we focus on a holistic approach to improve your condition. For patients suffering from achiles tendinopathy, our main goal will be to reduce excessive tendon load, while maintaining some level of mechanical stimulus to promote remodelling.
As such, we will start with an in-depth assessment of your body structure. From then, we will provide you with appropriate footwear advices & therapeutic exercises to help you improve the condition.
Additional treatment, such as shockwave therapy, might be provided in order to further facilitate healing for this condition.
1
In-depth Assessment
An in-depth assessment of your body structure and the factors that might be contributing to plantar fasciitis. A video assessment of your dynamic gait to observe other contributing factors.2
Footwear Advisory
Consideration of the right footwear to help support your feet, absorb shock and reduce the overall load and stress through the heel and foot. We advise based on your individual activity to fit your lifestyle and working needs.3
Therapeutic Exercise Programme
Stretching and progressive strengthening programs reduce pain and improves function. Slowly pre loading the achilles tendon and strengthening the calf muscle to better withstand load, stress and increased activity.4
Modification of Daily Activity and Training Regime
Gradual increment of intensity of training to re-load the achilles tendon. Loading it too fast will cause an overload and intensify the pains experienced.5
Shockwave Therapy (If Necessary)
A non-invasive treatment using acoustic waves to stimulate healing targeting soft tissues of the Achilles tendon. As shockwave therapy re-introduces blood flow via an inflammatory response to the tendon which generally does not have much blood flow, studies have shown that it is an effective treatment for this.
